Chattanooga FC Academy announced the hiring of Joilson Silva as the lead coach for Club Training nights, beginning on Monday.
Silva holds his USSF "C" License and is a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil where he played soccer most of his life. He moved to the U.S. in 1990 to coordinate the Vogelsinger Soccer Academy with Hubert Vogelsinger, a pioneer in soccer camps for the U.S. Silva was responsible for teaching thousands of players proper technique and dribbling.
He spent more than a decade with Lonestar Soccer Club in Texas -- which is currently in the top level of U.S. Soccer as a Development Academy (DA).
"To have someone with Silva's international experience and training camp experience is a big deal for CFC Academy," said Director of Coaching Steve Hirayama.
"Silva will lead our Club Training sessions, which is the third session of the week. We are honored to add him to our staff and know our players will notice an immediate benefit."
Silva earned his BA in Education with emphasis in Physical Education at University of Mogi das Cruzes in Brazil. He has an MBA from University Cruzeiro do Sul in Sao Paulo.
Before moving to Chattanooga, Silva was most recently Assistant Athletics Director for St. Gabriel's School in Austin, Texas. He is married with two children ages 21 and 7.
In addition to two nights of Team Training, players will participate in a third night called Club Training. This will include a mix of teams and/or age groups. The sessions will focus on dribbling, foot skill, ball striking, and SAQ (Speed/Agility/Quickness). SAQ will help athletes develop the ability to change direction without the loss of balance, strength or speed.
Director of Coaching Steve Hirayama will also be heavily involved in Club Training nights along with players from the CFC Men's Team and other senior coaches in the Academy.
