No matter the outcome, history was made on both sides at Finley Stadium Saturday. For the Chattanooga Football Club, it was the first time the boys in blue had ever played a Major League Soccer team. For the Atlanta United FC, it was the club's first ever official friendly.

12,484 fans filled Finley hoping for an exciting match, despite Chattanooga being four levels below the new MLS expansion team. Atlanta drew first blood just nine minutes into the game as Yamil Asad punched in the first ever goal for the club to the back corner of the net.

Then just ten minutes before the end of the first half, Asad got another wide open shot scoring his second goal, making it 2-0 at the half.

Atlanta would then go on to add two more goals the second half, first by Josef Martinez, and the final one by Andrew Carleton to give Atlanta United FC its first ever win, 4-0 against Chattanooga.

The CFC will return next to start its season beginning of May. Meanwhile, Atlanta United will open up its season March 5th, and has sold more than 27,000 season tickets, breaking the record for an MLS expansion franchise,

“This is a very exciting time,” Atlanta United Head Coach Gerardo Martino said. “Preseason matches are always a very important time for the coaches and players to establish a rhythm, and especially important for a first-year team to better understand each other.”

"Having Atlanta United here playing us in Finley Stadium rewards the passion our city and our fans have for soccer in the Scenic City," said Sean McDaniel, CFC Academy president.
